Naked butlers wantedWould you dare to bare your BUM?!
It was supposed to be Reading’s own ‘Pecs’ Factor but an open audition to find chaps willing to get their kit off in the name of hospitality lacked muscle when just one person turned up.
Representatives of events company Butlers in the Buff held the audition at the Walkabout bar, off Friar Street, on Wednesday night after spending the day scouring the streets for potential bare-chested beaus.
But, according to the company’s recruitment manager Caroline Rhodes, the miserable weather, possessive girlfriends and a lack of talent meant the day was unsuccessful.
The company provides butlers – wearing nothing but a bow tie and a tiny apron to cover their modesty – for hen parties, corporate events and birthdays and has proved successful around the country. Butlers can earn around £20 an hour for their services.
They have even appeared on TV programmes including ITV’s Going to Work Naked, Britain’s Next Top Model and The Great British Body.
Butlers in the Buff was set up five years ago in Bristol by former naval officer Jason Didcott.
He said: “The concept of having polite, good-looking young gentlemen greeting guests and serving champagne wearing only a tiny apron has proved very successful and the demand in the Home Counties is overwhelming, so we really need more guys to join our team of 180 butlers nationwide.”
Recruitment assistant Maxine Dupree-Nelson said that while new butlers might be scared at first, they soon get into the swing of things.
She said: “The butlers wear the aprons and their bottoms are on show. It’s quite revealing. They say first time it’s a bit daunting but they just have such a laugh that they don’t even notice.”
